Organized by

14th – 16th October, 2011

Theme Discussion:
“Population, Pollution and Poverty

It is well established that sustainable development is a pattern of resource use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so as to meet out present requirement but also for the future.  Therefore, sustainable development is maintaining a delicate balance between the human need to improve lifestyles and feeling of well being and preserving natural resources and ecosystem.  Sustainable development can be conceptually divided into three constituent parts (i) environmental sustainability (ii) economic sustainability (iii) socio-political sustainability. Therefore, sustainable development is a process of changes in which the exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development and institutional change are made constituent with the future as well as the present needs. Sustainable development respects the limited capacity of an ecosystem to absorb the impact of human activities.  Some people also believe that the concept of sustainable development should include preserving the environment for other species as well as for people having caught the attention of both central and state government and also public and private sectors. Sustainable development in India now encompasses a variety of development schemes in social, cleantech (clean energy, clean water green building and sustainable agriculture) and human resources segments.  Gandhiji once quoted that the nature can cater the needs of the human beings not the greeds.
